I believe I have most of what they are asking for already. If this course gives me a great portfolio, these are the types of jobs I’ll be going for by next year. Extra skills I might need for this work are an understanding of motion and film.

Employment in Multimedia

Much like any other job, opportunities for employment in the multimedia industry can be found in many newspaper such as the Advertiser or the Australian, as well as on-line at job seeking sites like CareerOne and the Australian JobSearch website. But don’t dismiss resources as word of mouth and cold canvasing.

Jobs available at time of posting –

Entry level jobs;

Multimedia opportunities in South Australia;

More opportunities interstate;

Other than specific requests for software knowledge, (which differs not only between occupations but also design houses), these employers are generally seeking people with:

  • Training
  • Strong design and artistic skills
  • Good communication and time management skills
  • An understanding of industry concepts and trends
  • Research skills

While most entry-level positions wont be advertised with a salary they can range from $30k – $60k, but usually closer to the $40k mark. Senior Designers can get around $80k or a little over $100k at the bigger corporations. Creative Directors, those that run whole companies, can break the $200k mark. These numbers can change from state to state.
