Creation of light

Line is the most basic element of design, the frame work of any logo. Line forms shapes and letters, (which are shapes with meaning). Lines can define the edge of an object or make the object itself.

Lines can even be used to create complex images and great works of art.  To the left is an example of Gustave Doré’s take on Genesis ‘Let there be light’. A complex seascape created by the manipulation of line.

Lines also give us direction and creates space. Indeed nothing can be drawn without the use of line. A whole cartoon –  The Dot and The Line: A Romance in Lower Mathematics was created using only dots and lines.

Below are a few examples of different ways line has been used in logo design.
